G/On OS

A cost effective alternative to managed laptops!

As an optional G/On feature, G/On OS (previously called G/On Secure Desktop) offers its users the option to restart and boot their PC from their G/On USB Token. The PC will be booted from a hardened, scaled down and locked down Linux operating system that creates a completely isolated and protected environment for the user on the remote PC.

As the PC is booted from the USB Token, G/On OS turns an unknown PC into a known and managed device. As an example, G/On OS works in a PC without a hard drive. It uses only the CPU, the monitor and the keyboard.

G/On OS starts the Linux desktop (Fedora) in a few moments and in the standard configuration from Giritech it provides

  • Network configuration tools for network connectivity via cable, wireless, or mobile broadband.
  • Connectivity to the corresponding G/On Server only (no other IP addresses are available)
  • Access to G/On enabled applications via
    • Browser (Firefox)
    • Remote Desktop (rdesktop) to Microsoft Terminal Services or Windows based physical/virtual desktops
    • Citrix (Citrix Web Access, Citrix XML Service)
    • Filezilla for FTP file upload and download

G/On OS turns G/On into a very cost competitive, state-of-the-art security solution that meets the highest level security standards required by even the most security conscious organizations.

Get your own customized G/On solution:

Giritech provides services that enables G/On customers to get customized versions of the Linux operating system being booted from the G/On USB Token. This could be the inclusion of specific corporate applications and tools, specific configuration of network access, or the ability to store encrypted documents. Please click here to contact Giritech for more information on G/On OS.

G/On OS works only on Intel based computers that can be booted from a USB device and in particular the G/On USB MicroSmart Token. Please notice: Mac PC's may require installation of special software that enables booting of Linux live media, e.g. rEFIT boot menu and maintenance toolkit found on http://refit.sourceforge.net
