The VPN Dilemma….Why to say "No to VPN”

VPN's are not always easy

Leading analyst Martin Heller, writing for Computerworld, has developed a list of issues network administrators need to consider carefully when implementing and using VPNs.

The list provides an overview that is simple yet provides administrators with enough detail to enable their users. Unfortunately the reality is that the list (and hence VPNs) ends up being the exact opposite: complicated, difficult to maintain and severely limiting to users. Administrators are left with a dilemma in that business needs addressed by VPNs remain highly valid but the list is actually a summary of reasons why not to implement a VPN. So what’s the alternative?

Giritech’s remote access solution G/On is based on a completely different networking paradigm than that of VPNs. G/On does not require installation of software on the PC and contrary to traditional VPN based solutions the PC does not become part of the network. Consequently, G/On eliminates numerous end point security issues and provides simplicity, ease of deployment and reduced administration allowing users to connect securely with their applications.

G/On provides users end-to-end secure remote access to their applications from their home PC’s or other PC’s through a single software product. G/On’s innovative and patented USB based connectivity and authentication device enables users to connect from any PC that has a USB port and is connected to the Internet. The G/On client provides users with a menu of applications they are authorized to access and converts application connectivity into a FIPS 140-2 validated 256-bit AES encrypted data stream that is sent to the G/On server and forwarded to the corresponding application server.

As an alternative to VPNs G/On is a remarkably simple yet powerful solution changing the way we work. “Once our users have tried G/On they will not let go of the freedom and flexibility they experience” is a common reaction from administrators.
