G/On Overview

G/On is an innovative "all-in-one" secure access solution. G/On features a unique combination of security features that significantly reduce the cost and complexity of giving employees and external partners access to applications "anywhere, anytime" from any PC. This makes G/On the most flexible and secure access solution on the market.

G/On is available in two product lines: G/On Business and G/On Enterprise. Please refer to "The two G/On productlines" for more details.

Both G/On Product lines are using the same client/server platform based on Giritech's patented EMCADS™ technology. The G/On Server is typically installed on a dedicated standard Windows server, behind the main perimeter firewall, together with the application servers. There are two client options:

G/On Desktop

Installed on a PC, this client option provides low-cost remote access to your business applications. Like G/On USB, users still enjoy the security of 2-factor authentication, AES encryption and mutual client/server authentication, but are limited to one PC which is effectively turned into the hardware factor in 2-factor authentication.

G/On USB

Installed on a special USB key supplied by Giritech, G/On USB affords maximum mobility. Just plug the USB key into the USB port of any Internet-enabled PC (W2K+) and wait for the log-in dialog box to appear. Enter your normal user name and password and you're connected to the applications you are authorized to use.

Core G/On Features
  • G/On is an easy to use “all-in-one” solution for securing access to applications on your network.
  • Combines both 2-factor user authentication (which eliminates the need for secure token solutions) with mutual client/server authentication which prevents man-in-the-middle attacks.
  • A unique “lock to process” feature prevents unknown applications or processes from using the already established G/On connection. This prevents malware from exploiting the connection to enter your network, making it safe to use G/On USB from PCs you otherwise have no control over.
  • G/On doesn’t use VPN tunneling protocols such as IPSec, L2TP and PTPP. Instead it encrypts all data using 256-bit AES and uses checksums and timestamps to prevent man-in-the-middle, relay and spoofing attacks.
  • A G/On server doesn’t broadcast – it only responds to G/On clients that know its shared secret and only requires one port to be open on the firewall. This makes it easy to control network access.
  • GOn allows flexible role & location-based access to applications (G/On Zones). This means you define which applications people will be allowed to access depending on which PC and/or which IP address they are connecting from.

Key Benefits

  • G/On reduces the complexity of your network by letting you replace multiple security solutions with one integrated solution.
  • G/On makes life easier for IT administrators as now they only need to manage one solution for securing access to applications for employees.
  • They can also use the same system for external partners, customers and suppliers.
  • G/On is very user-friendly – just plug in the G/On USB key or doubleclick the G/On desktop icon, log on and go to work. Log off when you’re finished and remove the G/On USB key.
  • There is nothing users can modify or reconfigure which helps reduce support calls.
