When Vaekstfonden, one of the largest state-backed investment companies in Denmark, discovered Giritech they also found the solution to their own remote access needs.

With more and more of their business being conducted abroad, Vaekstfonden needed a solution for letting investment managers connect securely to their corporate network while on the road. The company’s old VPN system was only set up for people working from their own PCs at home. And the browser-based alternatives they looked at couldn’t be used from most public computers. Then one of the investment managers came across Giritech’s G/On solution and presented it to the IT department at Vaekstfonden. No security ‘holes’ "I was pretty amazed when I saw G/On for the first time," says Vaekstfonden IT specialist Henrik Jensen, "The smartest thing is that there’s no connection between our network and local hard drives. When you take out the G/On USB key, there’s nothing left on the PC – we verified that with our own tests. There are no security ‘holes.’ We handle confidential client documents all the time, so that’s important. "Another reason G/On is so safe is it includes 2-factor authentication – you need both the physical key and the userid/password to access the network," Jensen adds. Zero administration G/On has saved Vaekstfonden months of implementation and administrative work. With their old VPN solution, it took 20 or 30 minutes to set up each client. And the server needed regular maintenance work. Not so with G/On: "G/On was so easy to implement – not to mention fast. I installed the G/On software on our server, entered the device numbers for each key and, within five minutes tops, people could work anywhere," says Jensen. "Weeks and weeks go by without me ever seeing a service problem. G/On just works on its own, automatically linking to our Active Directory. This means users don’t need separate userid’s and passwords for remote access, which is another reason why the time I spend on administration is virtually zero." Easy for twice as many users "G/On is also really easy for the users involved: it takes only a few minutes to learn how to use it. All people need to carry with them is the USB key. They just plug that in, enter their normal password and they’re connected," Jensen continues. It’s been nearly two years since the solution was installed, and there have been no complaints from users about G/On. Everyone agrees it’s both very mobile and simple to use. Vaekstfonden’s satisfaction with the solution is reflected in their decision to install a new G/On version soon that will give twice as many users remote access to their network. |
