What is G/On

.
The G/On platform provides an innovative and simple solution for application connectivity.
G/On extends business applications to all relevant user groups, local or remote while G/On minimizes network infrastructures and provides users with simple and transparent application access.
The challenge
Existing network infrastructures based on combinations of Local Area Networks (LAN) and VPN’s have for historical, technical and security reasons become complex, expensive and difficult to administer. High complexity is by itself now a security risk for many companies, thereby hindering the expansion of business applications to partners and other relevant users who are not necessarily direct members of the organization.
The high complexity of network infrastructures is due to the existing connectivity paradigm of differentiating between “inside” ─ that is the LAN as the secure IT Fortress with high walls around it and “outside” ─ the unsecure Internet. Using VPN based connectivity solutions, companies try to let the user’s remote workstation “in” and connect to the LAN in a secure way over the Internet, in essence trying to extend the high security walls around the LAN to encompass the remote workstation, regardless of location.
The G/On solution from Giritech
G/On connects users directly with their applications. This is contrary to VPN’s, which connect user’s workstations to the LAN ─ with the effect of severely limiting the population of users that can be allowed “inside” to the application servers.
G/On is an all-in-one, end-to-end solution, taking care of all application connectivity tasks, including 2-factor authentication from various client platforms (PC, USB Key, Mobile etc). This is contrary to VPN’s which need to be built around components from many vendors (tokens for user authentication, VPN routers for transmission, Identity Management solutions and much more).
G/On provides a LAN-like user experience, including the ability to execute client/server applications locally but without connecting to the LAN. This is contrary to VPN’s where workstations are made part of the LAN ─ with all the security risks this entails, effectively limiting the availability of business applications to partners and other relevant users.
So, with G/On, the user is always “outside” the LAN ─ regardless of location. And since the user keeps the LAN-like application experience (even simpler in many cases), there are no artificial barriers to view the whole Internet as your new Local Area Network
Dramatic simplification when combined with cellular networks
Some of Giritech’s current customers have started to combine the G/On solution with broadband connectivity over the cellular data net. Doing that, they have benefitted from an even more dramatic simplification of their network infrastructure cutting costs while at the same time achieving an optimal user experience (open the lid of your laptop, and your’re “on” to the relevant applications – close it, and you’re “off”). The internal network infrastructure can now be consolidated within the server room, while all application connectivity takes place over the cellular network using G/On (sometimes in smart combinations with open Wi-Fi hotspots locally).
