User Experience

G/On is wonderfully simple to use.

Launch the G/On client. If you use the G/On USB, this just means plugging in the USB key. G/On Desktop is launched by clicking the icon.

  1. Log in with your username and password (at this point the user is already protected by mutual client/server authentication).
  2. Depending on how your G/On is configured a menu may appear in the taskbar, allowing you to choose which application you want to use. Alternatively, G/On can be configured to launch a specific application automatically so the user ends up directly inside the application needed.
  3. Go to work.
  4. Once you’re finished, close the application you were working on.
  5. Close the G/On connection (select Exit from the G/On menu) and remove the G/On USB. Optionally just remove the G/On key thereby forcing a close of the application and of the G/On connection automatically.

This level of user-friendliness has several important benefits

  1. It makes G/On easy to deploy because there is no learning curve, even for non-technical users.
  2. The security is transparent to users – its always there, no matter what they do.
  3. Users cannot change any of the settings. This reduces Help Desk calls significantly.

What happens if software on the USB key gets deleted?

The G/On client includes a little program called G/Update. This is stored on the read-only partition of the G/On USB key or in the same folder with the G/On Desktop client. G/Update lets users connect to the G/On Server and have any missing files automatically pushed out to the G/On USB key.
